On February 13th, students of Muhammadiyah Islamic Boarding School Kudus, especially those in 11th grade, had an agenda called “Field Trip.” This trip aimed to practice conversation with a native speaker after a month of an English course with UMK College Students.

In Realizing our Field Trip activities were also not as easy as the eye can see, we prepared carefully, such as an English Conversation course every Monday and Thursday after school, of course we’re quite tired of the tight schedule but it was not a problem because with that activity made us much more understand how the art of speaking properly with foreigners. Jogjakarta was chosen as our destination as a country with many traditional cultures because Yogjakarta has come with interest. There we visited 4 Destinations.

The first destination, we went to Borobudur’s Temple. The tour guide explains to us the short history of the temple. Borobudur’s Temple is the one and only Buddha Temple biggest in the world. Its “Vihara” and “Beduhur” mean a temple on the hill (272 meters above sea level/MASL). The shape is front and behind it’s like a bell. It surprised us the most when we knew that the temple was built by not using cement. After a lot of explaining, we start to hunt the tourists. It was so crowded with other schools and of course, the tourists, even though it was 08.00 AM. They came from Canada, Japan, China, Singapore, Slovakia, Netherlands and many more.

The second place that we visited was Suara Muhammadiyah. We listened and we learned about the short history, how to made a good magazine and marketing management. The problem that they had, and also gave us the solution for our magazine, La Tansa. There was a session for asking-answering and we used it as good as we can. We were so glad to had a chance to visiting that Muhammadiyah Sentral Printing.

The next destination was Sonobudoyo’s Museum. We saw so many artistic things inside. Uniquely, the culture still existed and defended more than 1000 years ago. They served many traditional cultures mixed with modernistic, so many people were interested in visiting Sonobudoyo’s Museum. The last destination, of course, is Malioboro. We started from “titik 0 kilometers” and still hunting the tourists, fortunately. So many tourists around Malioboro. We start asked their time and next practicing our English-speaking skills. Most of them were so kind for having us, answering our questions so well, and with their pleasure to help us upgrade our English Speaks. Field Trip was a very good experience for upgrading our knowledge about Indonesian culture, and also upgrading our confidence to speak with native speakers.
